PM’s Program to Save Against Climate Damage, as 30,000 Saplings Distributed to 170 Organizations in Sitakunda

In solidarity with the Prime Minister’s 25-crore-tree, five-year plantation program; this year’s target of distributing 50,000 saplings fulfilled

To help maintain environmental balance and combat the effects of climate change, under the direction of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, a massive nationwide program to plant 25 crore (250 million) trees over the next five years is underway. As part of this program, the Sitakunda Upazila Samajkalyan Federation and Mohsin-Fatema Siddiqui Somaj Kollyan Shongstha (MFSS), with cooperation from the Afforestation and Chattogram North Forest Division, distributed 30,000 saplings to 170 social, cultural, educational, cooperative, voluntary, and youth development organizations in Sitakunda Upazila.

Combined with an earlier distribution of 20,000 saplings, a total of 50,000 saplings have now been distributed. The sapling distribution program was held on the morning of Saturday, August 8, at the Sitakunda Upazila Freedom Fighters’ Complex building.

The event was chaired by Shamima Nasrin, Executive Director of Mohsin-Fatema Siddiqui Somaj Kollyan Shongstha (MFSS). Moderated by Palash Chowdhury, General Secretary of the Sitakunda Upazila Samajkalyan Federation, the chief guest at the event was Sitakunda Upazila Executive Officer Md. Fakhrul Islam.

Speakers included Kawsar Ahmed Sarowari, President, and Tysir Uddin, General Secretary of MFSS; Khorshed Alam, Vice President of the Sitakunda Upazila Samajkalyan Federation; Md. Manzur Morshed Chowdhury, A.K.M. Mosiuddoula, M.O.H. Kaiyum, Jesmin Akter, journalist Kamrul Islam Dulu, Md. Sohel, Lion Engineer Md. Kamruddoza, Md. Shahnewaz, Professor Nurul Gani Chowdhury, Abu Jafar Mohammad Sadek, Md. Omar Faruk, Md. Abu Taher, Nur Khan, Bakhtiar Uddin, Lion Mohammad Alim Uddin, and Wasim Uddin, among presidents and general secretaries of various social and humanitarian organizations, along with more than three hundred social workers who were present.

Chief guest Md. Fakhrul Islam said there is no alternative to tree plantation in preventing climate change. Trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and release oxygen, lowering temperatures — a highly effective tool in combating global warming and natural disasters. He said tree plantation is a social movement essential to maintaining environmental balance and ensuring a livable planet for future generations. He further added that, in implementing the Prime Minister’s directive, fruit-bearing, timber, and medicinal trees must be planted extensively across the country under the “25 Crore Trees in 5 Years” program.
